“What’s the matter?” August asked when she stopped and stared at her phone “Did something happen? Do we need to go back?”
“Yes I mean no,” she looked up her eyes huge. Handing him her phone to read the text she received: Midnight, on the bridge. Come alone.
Silently he handed the phone back to her. “There’s no way I’m letting you go alone.”
“I have to” she shook her head “we don’t have a choice.”
“Yes we do,” August asserted “we go to the police.”
“What do we tell them?” Katrina asked gripping his arms tight “that my troubled sister is asking to meet alone. Where’s the threat in that? Maybe she’s changed. Maybe she wants to apologize….”
“And maybe she wants to pick up where she left off,” August said pulling her close.
“What should I do?” she asked against his chest “I can’t just ignore her.”
“I don’t know,” he said kissing the top of her head “but whatever we do we do it together. I don’t care if she said to come alone. I’m coming with you.”
Looking up at him she smiled before kissing him. “You’re right but we need to go prepared…”

“You’re late. I thought you weren’t going to come,” her words hung in the cool night air.
Garrett crossed his arms stopping halfway across the bridge “what do you want?” he asked.
“What do I want?” she laughed mirthlessly “I want what you took from me.”
Garrett took a couple of steps backwards as she advanced on him. Her light blue eyes flashing with sinister intent. “I didn’t do anything to you.”
“What do you call getting me arrested? What do you call being sent to military school?” She shook her fist at him “you ruined my life.”
He looked around the quiet park wishing he hadn’t come alone like she requested. Dumb move on his part. He knew she couldn’t be trusted. “You ruined your own life. I simply told the truth. Mom didn’t deserve to go to jail for something you did.” Something reflected in the light of them moon as she lunged for him. He tried to sidestep her attack but she was quick, quicker than he thought she was…
