“Hannah what do you think you’re doing?” Charity demanded after watching her best friend shrug into her coat and head towards the door.

“I’m going to sign up for the protest,” Hannah said putting her hat and gloves on.

“No you’re not,” Charity objected moving to block the door arms crossed.

“Get out of my way,” Hannah demanded “I’m going to do this.”

“Why?” Charity asked “give me one reason why.”

Crossing her arms Hannah looked away. The reason was simple. She wanted to prove to her half brother and sister  that she wasn’t a spoiled brat. She wanted to prove she did care about things.

“You’re doing it because of them” Charity hear the anger in her voice as she spoke “don’t let their petty jealousies determine your actions. You don’t have to prove anything to them.”

Hannah glanced at her best friend lips quivering “I don’t understand why they don’t like me anymore.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Charity told her “I like you the way you are and that’s all that matters. I’m not letting my best friend starve herself on Thanksgiving. Just think what our parents would say.”
